BMC offers SaaS-based and on-premises software and services in areas including cloud computing, IT service management, automation, IT operations, and mainframe. BMC stock was originally traded on NASDAQ under the symbol BMCS and on the New York Stock Exchange with the symbol BMC, but the company is now privately held. BMC is a multinational firm operating in North America, South America, Australia, Europe, and Asia and has multiple offices located around the world. The company's international headquarters is located in Houston, Texas, United States.

An anonymous user current BMC software employee recounts his experience working for the company on the "Glassdoor" website on September 1, 2020:

"1. Internal transfers are almost impossible. 2. Favoritism is deep-rooted. 3. Works like a typical Government company 4. Too much favoritism 5. Leadership is not kept in transparency by middle management. 6. This co. Sells products that are used under the ITIL framework, but don't use the same principle for its functioning. 7. No notice period system, you will be sacked anytime without intimation. 8. Lay off are very hard and brutal 9. BMC products market share shrinking."

"Was told I’d definitely hear ‘feedback’ either way 2 days after an hour and a half long technical interview. Their idea of feedback was to not call, or even email. Nothing. That’s what my time was worth to this company, absolutely nothing. Not even a text to say ‘get lost’. Nothing. This kind of behavior might have been the norm 20-30 years ago, but, get real folks. It’s 2018, it’s time to stop pretending like candidates are worthless and can be treated as such. I should have seen the poor reviews here before applying & I’m sure 10 more fake reviews will pop up now about how ‘entrepenurial’ the company is to skew the average rating, but how many crappy reviews are you guys going to sustain before getting it together?"

"It's not a 9-5 job by any means. Every employee was on call 24/7, even during vacations. The company beefed up upper management and laid off several employees due to salaries. The original owners have lost control of the company and is very doubtful it will recover from this. Lots of people have left from parent company and other companies purchased by BMC for these very reasons. It is possible that a bankruptcy company files bankruptcy!?!"

"Due to the politics and power struggles it's best to fly low and keep under the radar. Don't over or under perform, you can quickly find yourself in the middle of a bad situation. Technology in general seems to be considered a nuisance by many in upper management whose focus is on reducing cost via outsourcing without any consideration on quality, standards, process. This will likely cause much pain going forward. 401k provided, no match provided. No cost of living adjustments."
